Woodland Park

Woodland Park, Colorado:

Coined "The City Above the Clouds" by long time resident, Cal Elder, Woodland Park is an idyllic setting and considered by many to have the best view of Pikes Peak. It has a small mountain town feel and is showing signs of thoughtful/intelligent growth. Surrounded by national forest and boasting access to some of the best hiking, climbing and fishing in the world. Many of its residents make the easy commute to Colorado Springs, 17 miles away. Because of its location, population growth has a natural limitation. Image:Wp_pikes_peak.jpg

Few people know that there is a hip artist community growing in Woodland Park. Several full-time musicians have found this and the surrounding areas inspirational and a great place to raise their families. The number of arts festivals has increased in the past couple of years.

Interesting history: On January 20, 2001, the owner of an RV park found out that the Texas 7, a criminal group wanted for robbery and murder, was hiding out in his park. The next day, on January 21, SWAT teams came into the park. They found five of the members, one of whom shot himself. The other four were arrested.

Woodland Park is also the site of the Dinosaur Resource Center, a museum devoted to dinosaurs and fossils. Clint Vahsholtz, an ARCA driver, is a notable resident.
